CHS YELLOWJACKET FOOTBALL :
Friday night, August 30th, Devante Palacio (#9), broke Chester High School’s record for career receiving yards in our 35-27 win over Du Quoin. The first time Chester has defeated Du Quoin in 24 years. Congratulations Devante on your accomplishment and to the whole team on a great start to the season!!!

To end the game, Jackets hold the Indians for six plays during which DuQuoin started on their own 31 yard line and reached a pair of 1st Downs and had the ball on Chester's 33 yard line with just 1.2-seconds left in the game. Chester held DuQuoin on the final play of the game to win, 35-27
This was the first time in 25 years that the YellowJackets beat DuQuoin
DuQuoin has always been an Illinois powerhouse. They have an enrollment of 443 students. Chester has an enrollment of just 323 students

Football scrimmage vs Carbondale following Meet & Greet

School has started at Chester High School and with that beginning is the advent of fall
sports! Friday August 23 YellowJacket sports fans will have the opportunity to “get-up-close-and-personal” with all fall sports athletes competing this fall for “Good Ole CHS!”
Beginning at 5:45 p.m. fans can come to W.O. Smith Football Field to “meet & Greet” every fall sports athlete, including Cheerleading, Cross Country, Dance Team, Football and Golf.
All athletes will be introduced on the field and parents, friends and other YellowJacket
fans will be allowed on the field to take photos with their favorite YellowJacket athlete.
At 6:15 p.m. the traditional “Annual Football Gatorade Night” will begin at which time football supporters can donate a bottle (or more) of Gatorade to help refresh the squad throughout the 2024 season.
The football portion of the evening will begin at 6:15 p.m. with a warm up of all three levels, Freshmen, Sophomores/JV, and Varsity. The scrimmage will begin at 7:00 p.m.
This year the scrimmage will feature a new twist. The Carbondale Terriers, coached by former CHS Head Coach, Bryan Lee, will come to town to challenge the YellowJackets on both offense and defense.
The first scrimmage of the evening will feature the Varsity Teams of Chester and Carbondale. Each squad will run no more than a total of 48 plays. Coach Billy Belton said, “We will likely run 12 offensive and 12 defensive plays followed by another round of 12 offense and 12 defensive plays for a total of 48 plays.”
The Sophomores/JV will then take the field for their scrimmage of similar fashion.
Finally, the Freshmen newcomers will show off their newly learned skills on the grid iron to
close out the scrimmage portion of the event.
Principle Jeremy Blechle notes that there will be a “FULL” concession stand throughout the event and that guests can get a delicious meal, snack, tasty treat and/or beverages to top off the evening.

The 2024-2025 academic year at CGS is off to a lively start! Last Friday marked the first all-school morning assembly. Principal Mr. Blair and Assistant Principal Mrs. Petrowske greeted the students, who all recited the Pledge of Allegiance together, followed by introductions of the entire staff. This morning assembly tradition will take place every other Friday throughout the school year. Let's give a big Jr Jacket cheer for an amazing school year ahead!

School board petitions for Chester School District #139 can begin circulating August 20, 2024. Candidates can pick up packets at the Chester District Office located at 1940 Swanwick Street, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Candidates are to file petitions at the Randolph County Clerk’s Office located in the Randolph County Courthouse on November 12th - November 18th, 2024 during normal business hours.
CHS: BRYTON LARAMORE GRADUATING FROM U.S. ARMY BASIC TRAINING
Private Bryton Laramore will be graduating from U.S. Army Basic Training on August 22, 2024, at Ft. Jackson, SC. He is currently a senior at Chester High School. After high school, he will return to the U.S. Army AIT Training! Congratulations Bryton!
